Relatively Light

      Humans perceive reality through the reflection of light; in essence, reality relies on light to affirm its own existence. Since reality is a relative construct, bending and shifting according to the observer, can a "subjective truth" still be considered the truth? This painting juxtaposes three distinct types of light present in our world: the natural light of the sky, the soft artificial glow of neon, and the light of thought.

        Does the reality within our thoughts count as a true reality? How specific is the light born from it, and how does it relate to other truths? Does this conceptual light depend on anything else to sustain its existence, and what does the light of thought actually look like? These questions culminate in a painting where the sky, the grass, and the sunflower are each imbued with their own specific light. They are simultaneously real and unreal, manifesting in both concrete and abstract forms. They radiate and reflect their distinct versions of truth back and forth, coexisting within our world. Ultimately, which light wields the most profound power over reality for us as human beings?
